Well here we are at the end of another year and while many people are recapping the top tech for 2012 we here at Geek Weekly would like to revisit the top tech fail’s. No particular order…

What is more delicious then a new Apple product? I will tell you, it’s a new product and a new app with the promise of all the Apple goodness. Good job Apple! Your cult like followers are still driving around looking for their destination but if you ask them there is nothing wrong. I would like to know where your brain wash app is saved. All that aside it’s good for the big dogs to take a hit from time to time. Let’s face it no one is perfect.

1. Windows 8 Professional (operating system)

 

 

With its biggest OS rollout since Windows 95, Microsoft seeks to embrace all things computing with a one-size-fits-all operating system. Love or hate the new Start screen and app storefront, look beyond those polarizing elements, and you’ll find substantial performance improvements, numerous updates to critical features, and a largely successful effort to retain compatibility with desktop applications while also fulfilling the needs of mobile apps. Windows 8 has already spawned new designs and all sorts of hardware experiments. This bold step forward won’t appeal to old-schoolers, but its sleek, modern look just might win over a new generation of users that Microsoft must attract to remain relevant.

2. Apple iPad, 3rd Generation (tablet)

 

 

We’ve listed the third-gen iPad here because it had the biggest impact on the tablet market—it was the first to feature Apple’s high-resolution Retina display. But if you want to buy a full-size iPad now, get the fourth-gen model: It has a faster processor, better Wi-Fi capabilities, and improved LTE circuitry.

PS Vita failure blamed on iPad and Android apps

The evolution of competitive devices is starting to become apparent, so much so the future of the PlayStation Vita is concerning, with the failure of this handheld being blamed on iPad and Android apps among others. There’s no denying the PS Vita is a cool gaming device, but other avenues have also been producing some great approachable applications on other platforms, giving us cause to question how Sony’s handheld will fair as technology increases throughout the gaming world.

We are under the impression that the PS Vita is not fairing too well in Japan, in fact, it seems to be dying in this territory, and this could have a knock on effect in other countries. Highlighting the Vita’s poor reception Forbes report on how the PSP has sold 14 million units in Japan with 17m in the US, but the performance of the Vita has been questioned in Japan because the unit volume was a shocking 4,021 by the week ending on the 11th of November. The PSP sold 12,000 units during the same week, so the Vita has failed to dislodge the old one, which wasn’t forecasted.

‘Attack Of The Show’ Canceled

I am sure that most of you know that both Attack of the show and X-Play are being canceled by the end of the year. These were honestly the only shows i watch on there now. When they are gone I will have no reason to tune into G4. So that said Candace and Sara you will be missed.

Happy 49th Anniversary Doctor Who!

On this day 49 years ago, the Doctor first appeared on TV screens across the UK. 10 regenerations and nearly 800 episodes later and Doctor Who remains the longest running and most successful sci-fi TV show in the world!

In 1963 the BBC broadcast that thrilling and otherworldly theme music for the first time and viewers were introduced to the Doctor and his incredible TARDIS. At the close of the episode his time machine left present day Earth far behind and began a journey, a journey that introduced the world to Daleks, Cybermen, Time Lords and the idea that bow ties really are cool. It’s a journey that still goes on today and continues this Christmas with The Snowmen…

Dr Who – The Snowmen (2012 Christmas special)

The Christmas special is following Moffat’s tradition of adapting Christmassy stories, and this time it’s The Snowman. As with the previous two Christmas specials, it won’t be a truly faithful adaptation, and obviously has a science-fiction twist to it.

The Snowman (or possibly Snowmen) isn’t/aren’t actually made out of regular snow. They’re made out of alien snow. Living snow with its own consciousness. And the snow is very, very hungry. Packed together into a humanoid figure, it’s deadly. Also, Vastra is narrating the episode.
